Vegetables and fruit on the market stall next door

118 Kirkgate · Leeds · open three days a week

Five pounds. Ten items. Your choice.

A pantry, not a food bank. Members pay a weekly subscription and pick their own shopping off the shelf — no referral, no vouchers, and nobody asks why you came.

How it works

Membership, not charity

Everything on the shelf is donated or bought with the subscriptions. Paying for it is the point — it is your shop, not a handout.

  1. 01

    Join in five minutes

Fill in the form or come in on a Tuesday. We need a name and a rough idea of who is at home, so we know how much you can take.

  2. 02

    Pay £5 a week

Cash or card at the counter. Miss a week and nothing happens — pick up whenever you are next in.

  3. 03

    Choose your own shopping

Ten items for a single person, more for a family. What is on the shelf changes with what has been donated.

Shelves of fresh produce

The old post office

21 things on the shelf, across 6 aisles

We took the old sorting office on a peppercorn rent in 2019 and put shelves where the counters were. The safe is still there — it is where we keep the nappies.

Eleven volunteers, two chest freezers, and a van that starts most mornings. Everything else came from people who live within a mile of the door.

Questions we get asked

Straight answers

Do I need a referral?
No. Anyone living in LS2, LS7 or LS9 can join, and we do not ask about your circumstances.
What if I cannot pay one week?
Come anyway. Nobody is turned away and nobody keeps a tally.
Is it only tins?
No — fresh produce, bread and chilled goods come in three times a week. They go quickly.
Can I volunteer?
Yes, and we always need drivers on a Monday. Ask at the counter or ring.

The door is open Tuesday

Join online and your card will be waiting, or just turn up — the form takes two minutes at the counter.
